yoga

Yoga is an ancient healing science, originating in India over 5000 years ago.  It’s purpose is to help each of us achieve our highest potential and to experience enduring health and happiness.  The word Yoga has been translated as “to unite”, or “join together”. Historically, there have been five main practices of Yoga:

  • Raja Yoga, the Royal Path, with emphasis on meditation
  • Jnana yoga, the Path of Wisdom, with emphasis on self-inquiry
  • Hatha Yoga, the Path of Energy, with emphasis on energetic balancing
  • Bhakti Yoga, the Path of Devotion, with emphasis on Worship
  • Karma Yoga, the Path of Action, with emphasis on service.

Of all these approaches, Hatha Yoga is the one most well known in the west. Hatha Yoga works through the body; it involves moving the body into different and novel positions and relationships.  Hatha Yoga is the only approach to Yoga that offers a wide range of physical benefits.  In using the body to transform the mind, the body is also transformed.  It is recalibrated, revitalized, harmonized, and brought to a functional peak, both anatomically and physiologically.  Hatha Yoga aims at purifying the body through a variety of physical postures or exercises that allow the yogi to experience a greater connection and awareness of self.  Because one’s physical states affect one’s psychological states, as we look for a healthy body, we find a calm mind. In increasing our strength and stamina we also find increased determination and concentration.  The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to allow us to become fully in touch with whom and what we are, which is the essence of Yoga.

Your yoga practice is a sanctuary, a place to come to find beauty in your body, peace in your mind, joy in your heart, and balance in every aspect of your lives.

It’s simple…BREATHE!
